What to Wear for Family Photos

One of the most common questions we get from our clients when planning a family photo session is what to wear. Families often want to have a nice cohesive look, while still looking natural and not too “matchy-matchy”.

Our first step in helping our clients decide what to wear is picking the space where the photos will be taken. Once we’ve decided on the home or studio space for the photo session, we can work with that space’s colours and aesthetic. If interested, we’ll put together a couple of colour palette options for our clients that work well with the space they have chosen. This way, the family can decide which colour palette makes the most sense for them. With a colour pallet in mind everyone can look somewhat coordinated, but still have lots of flexibility to choose something that they feel comfortable wearing.

The most important thing when choosing what to wear for photos is that everyone in the family should wear what’s comfortable for them and be themselves. If you don’t feel comfortable in your outfit, it will be much harder to feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera.
